Community Happenings - Easter & King Puff Cup Season 3 around the corner

Minion Masters!

When no Dwarf is in the office, it can only mean a handful of things: vacations, weekends, Christmas or - in the current case - Easter. Yes, even Dwarves know Easter and celebrate it and thus the team will be away until Tuesday next week. But do not worry, we have a Community Manager being there for you and recruited someone new lately ;)

Hype the weekend!

"Why", you may ask. Well, because we got information from a trustworthy source that the first King Puff Cup Season 3 tournament is planned to be announced this weekend. We also heard about a reveal, lots of changes and a new prize pool!

Personally, we can't wait for the new season to start and for the first tournament stream. All we know so far:
  • The first tournament of the King Puff Cup Season 3 will happen on Saturday, April 7th at 13:00 UTC
  • We can expect the Conquest format
Stay tuned for the official announcement and always remember: there are no brakes on the Hype-Train!

A new eSports Dwarf

Speaking of competitive Minion Masters with the aim to become an eSports title, we recently welcomed Tengs at BetaDwarf, who will be responsible for competitive Minion Masters as our new eSports Coordinator! To give you a better understanding of who he is, what he does and what you can expect, here's an interview with him:

Hi Tengs, nice to have you! Would you please introduce yourself to our community?

Will do. I`m Benjamin Tengs, 25 years from the cold country called Norway.

You’re the newest Dwarf and responsible for competitive Minion Masters. How does a working day in the life of an eSports Coordinator look like?

Well, first of all, it never ends and you need a lot of coffee and energy drinks. Other than that it involves talking to a lot of people, finding creative solutions and always be on the lookout for ways to make Minion Masters' competitive scene more awesome!

Sounds exciting! Let’s talk about the future: what can we expect when it comes to competitive Minion Masters and its’ tournament scene?

A lot more tournaments, new grand prizes and more support for competitive players. Can`t give out any details just yet, but changes are not far away.

Will there be more major tournaments presented by BetaDwarf in the future? Something like The Master’s Challenge last year?

Maaaaybe. We will hope, wait and see, be sure to tune in on our official channels and you might see some hints or clue`s.

What're the things Minion Masters stand out competitively, compared to other eSports titles?

Well, the progression in this game is vastly different than in most games. Almost every card makes an impact and the game want the player to figure out the good strategies. There is almost no influence from the Devs on how you should play the game. We have seen over and over players creating their own way of playing and this is fantastic. Rewarding skilled and creative playstyles is always something I love to see.

Even though you might be biased: where do you see Minion Masters in 2 years from now?

Everywhere! ESL, Dreamhack, on your local gas station and the official way to duel with others. You have a problem with your neighbor? Challenge him to a game of Minion Masters!

Will you still broadcast for the King Puff Cup?

I`ll do anything to help out our tournament organizers and if they want me to use my perfect pronunciation of Xiao Long, fear not. I'll be there.

Fantastic! Thanks again for the interview and if you want to, you can leave some shout-outs.

Shoutout to Tina and Pelle, that been my partner and my dog. Then there's Erythais, an awesome Community Manager and of course BetaDwarf for wanting me on board for this! Other than that I hope people will remember that internet-harassment is getting worse and worse, so being friendly and helping your fellow gamers is really a great thing to do!  Even if they're your competitors, please be kind and understanding. Too many teens struggle with depressions and low self-esteem, so let us look out for each other and have a great time!

---

That's all for today, Masters! Heading back to the flying arenas and prepare for the next competitive season of the King Puff Cup is what we suggest. And of course we hope all of you will have a happy Easter!

Cheers from BetaDwarf

Minion Master's Monday - New Expeditions and stuff

Minion Masters!

April is around the corner and that means that we're looking forward to the announcement of the first tournament of King Puff Cup Season 3! After a well-deserved break, we personally can't wait to see competitive Minion Masters coming back to Twitch presented by the King Puff Cup staff. How about you?

Update 62 - Livings amongst the dead

But before the next King Puff Cup tournament circuit starts, we'll have an update. On Tuesday, March 27th, we'll present Update 62 - Cursed Valley. This update will introduce Cursed Valley Expeditions - a land where the dead rule. The new Expeditions come with a new theme and new layouts, as well as new bosses. The new Expeditions will also mark the end of the current Draft event! The Incubus will no longer be available as a guaranteed reward with 12 wins but via spins and crafting.

Along with these new frontiers for you to explore, we will introduce several bug fixes, various improvements and balance changes for:
  • Stun Lancers
  • Tranquil Shi-Hou
  • Bounty Sniper
All these units will receive a buff and we're very excited to see how you'll make use of these units afterward. As always, there could be more changes included in Update 62, so watch out for the official patch notes on Tuesday!

What's with the mysterious update in ~36 days?

Hold on, you'll get more information soon enough ;) For now, it's best to just get hyped for 8-10 new cards and new seasons! Within these ~36 days there will be other updates and who knows, maybe we surprise you with new cards prior to the mysterious update.

King Puff Cup Season 3

According to the King Puff Cup Twitch channel, the first tournament of Season 3 is planned for Saturday, April 7th. It's fair to say that we can be excited already for the announcement of that first tournament. A little talk to the staff revealed that the new tournament circuit comes along with brand new graphics as well! We already got a little taste of these new graphics with the current offline graphic on the channel.

As far as we can tell, the frequency of the tournaments didn't change and we personally can't wait to see the announcement and reveal of the first tournament format for the King Puff Cup Season 3!

---

That's all for today, Masters! Head back to the flying arenas and if you have any questions feel free to ask via Discord, Reddit, Steam forums, Facebook and Twitter.

Community Happenings - A Master and his answers

Minion Masters!

As promised, we want to dedicate the next few Friday posts to present interviews with various persons interacting with Minion Masters in different ways. Some create content, others try to stay as competitive as they can be. We have people organizing community events, the developers of course, players that just play the game on different levels of skill and knowledge. All of them have one thing in common: they play Minion Masters on a regular basis and love it.

Let's do this!

Minion Masters meets Swongolians

We mentioned the Twitch channel SwongoTV in an earlier blog post. And it just happened that Swongo will be our first Master to answer questions in this series of interviews.

Hi Swongo, nice to have you! Even though you’re a regular Minion Masters streamer, would you introduce yourself, please?

My Streamer name is Swongo, I am a 45-year-old husband, father, gamer and retired game dev. I have been playing video games since the days of Pong and have been passionate about it ever since. I chased my passion for gaming into a career that took me on one hell of an adventure. Some of the best times in my life were during my days in the industry. My passion for gaming even rubbed off on my sister-in-law who has become a game dev as well and now even streams on her free time. Games have been a strong presence in my life for as long as I can remember, and I am grateful to have a platform like Twitch to be able to share my passion with the public. I run and operate the Twitch channel SwongoTV. I currently stream a variety of games 6 days a week on Twitch at twitch.tv/swongotv.
I stream Minion Masters several days a week as well as some other games (mostly indie games) to keep the stream fresh and interesting. SwongoTV just celebrated our 9-month anniversary exceeding 900 followers with a Minion Masters stream and giveaways every hour. We had a great time and made a lot of new friends and Swongolians. The channel is growing so fast and the community is one of the best on Twitch in my opinion. Stop by and follow the channel and become part of the Swongolian Nation (I call my followers Swongolians). Much love to you Swongolians out there if it wasn’t for your support I would not be here today <3.

Sounds awesome! As someone playing Minion Masters on a regular basis, would you agree with Minion Masters being more than just another card game in the CCG pool? And if so, why?

Minion Masters is much more than a card game in my opinion. I find that it is more of an organic strategy game full of tactics in the same genre as a table-top game like chess. However, instead of each player having the same board pieces they have different cards that transform into characters on the playfield and battle it out before your eyes in an exciting mash-up of action. Cards are an important part of Minion Masters. Deck building is one of my favorite things to do in Minion Masters, creating a strategy, testing it on live players in the arena can be very satisfying as well as a learning experience. Once you’ve built your deck and enter the arena the cards transform into warriors and spells for you to activate. It’s the arena were Minion Masters feels less like a card game and more like a tower attack/defense game or even a single lane MOBA.

What do you think makes Minion Masters stand out compared to Clash Royale or other popular CCGs?

First and foremost, it’s not played on a tiny phone screen, playing on PC is a huge difference. I have a few games on my phone and tablet, but rarely play them because I have a PC and large monitor with a keyboard and mouse. In Minion Masters the characters come to life as soon as you play their card as opposed to many other CCGs that when you play a card the card lays on a virtual tabletop as a card with little to no life in it. As price points go, Minion Masters is hard to beat too, although some CCGs are Free-to-play they are also micro transaction heavy games that require a massive grind or a significant purchase to stay competitive.
At this stage of Minion Masters development, I feel that a player can remain competitive without a significant strain on a players wallet. The core deck that new players receive is very strong and will keep them competitive for some time all the while earning new cards to add to their decks without any investment required. I have paid some money into the game not because I needed to but because I wanted to support the Dev team that created this game and felt that I simply didn’t give them the money they deserved from the purchase price of the game. Also, I got me some skins ;)

Speaking of being competitive: ever thought about competitive Minion Masters? If so, how do you feel about the state of it?

I have thought about competitive Minion Masters but if I am completely honest, I am just not good enough yet. However, I have been getting some great tips and knowledge of the game from the community as a whole and getting better every week. Who knows, maybe you’ll see Swongo in a tournament in the future. As for the current state of the competitive Minion Masters scene I feel we need some new blood out there. Exciting as the tournaments are getting it seems that the same players are at the top of the leaderboards every week. Having many of them as followers of SwongoTV I pick their brains on many Minion Masters strategies and card plays in hopes to educate the viewership and get some new faces in the leaderboards (maybe my own as well).

Not good enough... honestly Swongo, when can your audience and the rest of the community expect to see you in tournaments?

I need some more training before I can enter a tournament. There is still a lot for me to learn about the tactics, play styles and overall value of each card. I don’t mind losing, I just want to make a good fight of it. When I feel that I could at least give a good fight, you’ll see me out there. With the help of the community (which is very helpful I might add), I will get good enough to put on a good show. Then again, my destiny may be to commentate on the sidelines, we’ll see what the future holds.

The future is a good point for the next questions: where do you see Minion Masters in 2 years?

With proper marketing and continued balance of development, I see Minion Masters being very popular. One of the many things I like about Minion Masters is that you’re not committed to a long play session when you sit down to play. You can join a game, play it and be done in 10 minutes or less. Alternatively, if you want you can strap yourself in for a ladder climb and play for hours. The versatility of the game is very appealing. I can’t wait to see the numbers when you full release on PC and Xbox. It is a fun game for casuals, an addicting game for competitive players and a fun game to watch. The Minion Masters community is very kind and helpful and seems to be growing all the time. I’d love to see a larger presence on Twitch and eventually even some eSports events. Perhaps a good showing at a Con like E3 could push Minion Masters into the larger audience that it deserves.

Thanks for the interview and if you want, leave some shout-outs!

I would like to shout-out some other Minion Masters streamers out there that have been very supportive of me and SwongoTV: Kexaron, Excaliber80, Truteo, Videogamer77 & my buddy TheHairyHippo. Go check out these guys' growing channels and pick their brains on any Minion Masters questions you might have.
I would also like to take a moment to thank BetaDwarf for being so supportive of SwongoTV. You guys have always answered any questions I might have, given me codes for giveaways on stream and been all around great Devs in my book. I hope we can continue to build our relationship and grow together. Thank you, so much and keep up the good work.

Well, what could we possibly add at this point? Nothing else than have a nice weekend everyone, good luck with the last days of the Draft event and don't miss our next blog post on Monday, when we talk about the upcoming Update 62 for Minion Masters!

Minion Master's Monday - What's on the horizon?

Minion Masters!
The weekend's gone and Monday means a week full of work is waiting. For us, that means we have to prepare Update 62, which is scheduled for Wednesday, March 28th! For you, that means the Incubus is still obtainable for another 9 days via 12 wins in Draft.

What's on the horizon?

The picture above is from last year and some of you already seen it. That's what it looks like when Dwarves are happy. Be it by receiving new headsets from SteelSeries or finishing successful updates for Minion Masters. Update 60 was a very big update. Update 61 introduced the current Draft event along with the Incubus, a card originally submitted by PedroEX during the Minion Masters Card Design Contest back in 2017. Now, what's about Update 62?

Our next update will introduce balance changes and new expeditions. No, no further reworks, but the Cursed Valley will come back to Minion Masters as a new Expeditions theme and with new layouts. Furthermore, we plan to introduce multiple balance changes. Be sure to get ready for changes to the following units:
  • Bounty Sniper
  • Tranquil Shi-Hou
  • Stun Lancers
There might be more changes to more units, but these 3 are definitely set in stone. Not going into too much detail since some changes are still being tested, all 3 units seem to receive buffs. Since Update 62 will not hit any earlier than March 28th, we will update these list next Monday with the final units receiving changes.

That's it for March, how about April then?

Looking at the schedule for April 2018, we'll see the King Puff Cup kicking off Season 3! We're very excited. We'll also see more balance changes and maybe even new cards. More improvements go without saying. Anyway, new cards are under development for the mysterious update in ~43 days. And we're not talking about 1 card, not 2, not 3, not 4... we're talking about 8-10 brand new cards themed around Demons. But that's not April anymore...

Still issues with Styxi and Assassin?

Unfortunately, our hotfix was unable to eliminate all issues with stealth units. We're still investigating and working on a solution. If you experience any issues with Styxi or Assassin, please send us the output_log.txt per mail. It has to be before you restart the game! Here's how you find it:

Steam library > right-click Minion Masters > Properties > Local files > Browse Local files > MinionMasters_Data > look out for output_log.txt

Replay files are also always welcome.

---

That's it for today, Masters! We wish every one of you an amazing start to into the week and good luck at the Draft event. See you on the flying arenas!

Community Happenings - Mysterious

Minion Masters!

Did you already achieve your 12 wins in Draft mode and got access to the Incubus? Even if not, you still have time. The Draft event runs until March 28th and if you cannot manage to achieve 12 wins by then, the Incubus will be available - like every other card - by spinning and crafting.

Update ?? - The mysterious 46 days teaser

Some of you were wondering after Update 61. In the in-game news section, a teaser appeared telling you that something mysterious will happen in ~46 days. Some assumed it's the release countdown. Well, it's not the release countdown! It's a countdown for another big, big update. We don't want to go into too much detail right now, but it's about new seasons, multiple cards per season (yes, themed card packs are a thing in Minion Masters), progression and more.

Over the course of the next weeks, we'll have more shareable information for you and who knows, maybe even the PTR comes back online when the mysterious update comes closer ;)

Speaking of the release: the mysterious update in ~46 days is a major step towards the release. New seasons, multiple ways to progress and multiple cards per season are cornerstones to implement fresh content into Minion Masters and keep players busy until the next season. And don't worry, we also have new Masters in the pipeline... but not in 46 days.

Update 61 Issues

Our latest update came with issues. It goes without saying that we're sorry for that and we released a hotfix yesterday. There are still reported issues with stealth units like Styxi and Assassin, which we investigate right now.

A big thanks to our community for reporting all these issues and providing us with additional information like screenshots, replays, short videos and the output_log. You're helping us improving Minion Masters!

---

This week's blog post is kinda short, but we'll make up for that next week. The next few Community Happenings will present interviews with various people interacting with Minion Masters. Be it streamers, YouTubers, top or not so top players or even Dwarves... Have a nice weekend everyone!

Minion Master's Monday - Draft it

Minion Masters!

Did you have a nice weekend? We sure hope so. We also hope that you saved some Gold or Rubies for the upcoming Draft event because it's not just about more rewards! It's about the release of the Incubus, a card designed by PedroEX - winner of the Minion Masters Card Design Contest 2017!

More wins, more rewards

Most of you played Draft for a run or two already. Some players are known for playing Draft the vast majority of their time or even exclusively. For all players never touched Draft before, here's a short explanation:

As soon as you start a Draft, you'll get to choose a Master out fo 3 random Masters. With your Master chosen, you'll get to pick 1 card at a time out of 3 random cards until your deck is full. After that, your Draft run begins and you'll get matched against other Draft players. A single Draft run can last for a maximum of 12 wins. If you lose 3 times throughout your run, it's game over. Pretty simple.

On Wednesday, March 14th, we'll start a Draft event lasting until March 28th. This event will introduce a new card and additional one-time prizes available during the event. These one-time prizes will be available at certain win thresholds. Here's an overview of what you'll get and when:
  • 3 wins will get you 1.000 Gold
  • 6 wins will get you a random rare card
  • 9 wins will get you 100 Rubies
If you manage to achieve 12 wins during the event, you'll get the new card - and Minion Masters Card Design Contest 2017 winner - Incubus! This is the only way to obtain the card during the event. After the event has finished the card will be available through spins and crafting as usual.

During the event, there's also a 40% chance to get the Incubus as a card choice for every Draft run.

Bug fixes and more

While a Draft event and a new card are amazing, we will also introduce several bug fixes and more. One of the most noteworthy bug fix should be that Musketeer will function normally again. No more frustration with this unit after it dodged.

As it stands, we won't introduce balance changes with Update 61 since we want to gather more data in order to make informed decisions.

---

That's all for today, Masters! We're just as excited as you about the Incubus and can't wait to start the first Draft as soon as the update will hit on Wednesday. See you there!

Cheers from BetaDwarf

Community Happenings - Community Content

Minion Masters!

Update 61 is around the corner and we at the office are already excited to play Draft mode with additional rewards and the Incubus. How about you? Well, there's still a few days between now and next Wednesday. To make the waiting a bit easier, we want to introduce a few pieces of content created by our community.

In-depth looks

Edelweiss is one of our top players and can be regularly seen in the Top20. He's also one of the top content creators on YouTube when it comes to Minion Masters. Generally, he provides in-depth looks on changes we make, but funny content as well.

Black Hole Wars, for instance, was about a 2vs2 match he played with a friend and just like the title already tells us, a lot of Black Holes where used.

His latest video is about Update 60 and all the related changes. Edelweiss provides his own opinion on the update and balance changes and presents a Ravager deck, which he made mainly to counter Demon Warrior Apep.

If you want to check out more of Edelweiss' content, you can find his YouTube channel here and his Twitter account here.

Grandmaster's Journey

Another, very active content creator on YouTube is Zgriptor. He presents first looks at new updates as well as deck ideas. Zgriptor is - just like Edelweiss - a regular Top20 player and an active tournament participant.

In the video above, Zgriptor presents a deck made with 10 legendary cards. A really funny project and he even managed to reach #1 in 1vs1 with it.

His latest project is a series of videos called Grandmaster's Journey. Zgriptor recorded his 1vs1 games until he hit Grandmaster in February in this series and presents them live commentated. Be it new players or veterans, there's surely a lot of stuff where one can learn something new from such a series. The current Episode is 9, but better you start with Episode 1 ;)

If you're interested in more content from Zgriptor, you can find his YouTube channel here and his Twitter account here.

More content?

If you want even more content about Minion Masters, we suggest to simply search for "Minion Masters" on YouTube or head over to Twitch! We have some very active and regular streamers appreciating every single viewer. Our latest streamers are - for instance - Dorwulf and SwongoTV.

We want to thank every content creator for the effort and support at this point and we hope that we will see even more Minion Masters content in the future!

---

That's all for today, Masters! Head back to the flying arenas or enjoy some content from our community members. In any case, have a nice weekend everybody!

Minion Master's Monday - Incubus meets Draft mode

Minion Masters!

Last Friday we promised a bit more information on the upcoming Update 61 for Minion Masters. This patch is planned for March 14th. What's included? Let's have a brief look.

Draft event and a new card

After many events featuring the Expeditions, we wanted to highlight the main game modes some more. That's why Update 61 starts a Draft event lasting for 2 weeks. From March 14th until March 28th it's time for you to show off your skills in building a deck from random cards! To bring something fresh into it, we're changing the Draft mode rewards.

Normally, you'll get rewarded according to the total wins you managed to achieve during your Draft run. Well, that doesn't change. But how about one-time rewards at certain win thresholds? Yes, we thought you might like that ;) The best part is: these one-time rewards will be granted to you on top of the normal rewards! More income per Draft even if you don't reach 12 wins.

Another thing that changes for the event is a special reward, so to speak. The Minion Masters Card Design Contest winning card Incubus will be exclusively available throughout the event! All you have to do is to achieve 12 wins in Draft mode.

On top of that, every Draft ticket gets a 40 percent chance to get a choice of 3 cards including the Incubus. Once you unlock a copy you can craft more, and the card is obtainable after the event via spins and crafting.

In case you missed our initial reveal of the Incubus during the last King Puff Invitational, here's the VOD. Please note, that at this point the Incubus wasn't finally balanced and stats, as well as skills of the card, are subject to change.

Other changes you should know about

As it stands, Update 61 will additionally contain bug fixes and several smaller changes. To date, we do not plan balance changes with Update 61. However, there might be a Steam sale on the horizon ;)

When it comes to the tournament scene around Minion Masters, the V.U. Open was happening last Saturday! Sinilil ran this tournament mainly to do our US-based players a favor in terms of tournament starting time and to have a competitive event with the new settings introduced with Update 60. Here's the Top4 of this event:
  1. boxes
  2. Edelweiss
  3. ecke
  4. Terra Reveene
Congratulations to the winners and a big thanks to everyone participating!

---

That's all for today, Masters! Now head back to the flying arenas and it's probably a good idea to train your Draft skills ;)

Cheers from BetaDwarf

Friday's Community Happenings

Minion Masters!

A busy week comes to an end. Wasn't that a really huge patch on Wednesday? So many changes, adjustments and we're just getting started. Remember when we told you: "2018 will be legendary"? We meant it ;)

Minion Masters this weekend?

The King Puff Cup took a break after the King Puff Invitational and plans to start the third season in April. The current dates can be seen here:

Seems like the King Puff Cup staff changed the look of their graphics as well ;) But what exactly does that mean for competitive Minion Masters? Only ladder until April?

Definitely not. Sinilil, one of the casters for the King Puff Cup, announced the V.U. Open, yesterday. According to him, this tournament will happen on Saturday, March 3rd at 1pm EST (UTC -5) and aims to collect data on the impact of the Visual Rework on competitive Minion Masters and to have some fun in a competitive environment. Nevertheless, we appreciate the effort and want to give participants a little incentive. Therefore the prize pool for this tournament is 5.000 Rubies and 20.000 Gold.

Everybody can participate and the tournament rules are quite easy: no Wild cards, have fun. Here you go for additional information and to sign up!

Next week in Minion Masters

On Wednesday, we introduced Update 60 - Looks matter! The Visual Rework and all related changes, as well as balance adjustments, were huge and changed Minion Masters in several areas. What exactly happened can be read in our official patch notes.

Next week, we want to give you a little insight on our next patch, which is planned for March 14th, if all goes to plan. It's all about Draft mode and a new card we already revealed during the King Puff Invitational on Saturday, February 24th

The PTR (Public Test Realm) was shut down this week and will eventually return for short test periods, whenever deemed important. At his point, we want to thank our whole community for being so engaged, supportive, talkative and putting so much effort into helping us improve Minion Masters! You guys are amazing!

---

That's all for this week, Masters. After 9 pages of patch notes on Wednesday, there's not that much left to tell :P Have a nice weekend everybody!
